Why drink Lemon water

Did you know…

Citrus fruits like lemons, limes and oranges contain high levels of citrate, a chemical that binds to excess calcium in the urine. With the majority of calcium in the kidneys bound to citrate, crystals can’t form, essentially lowering the risks for and frequency of kidney stones. In fact, citrus fruit and fruit juices are so effective at limiting the formation of kidney stones, for those prone to their development, lemonade and citrus juice are recommended for daily intake. Daily lemon water is a great way to reduce your risk of developing kidney stones.

And it can protect your liver too

Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease or NAFLD is a buildup of fat around the liver that is caused by poor diet and can result in serious liver damage. One in four adults in the US is thought to be affected by NAFLD. Lemons contain the compound D-Limonene which has shown promise in alleviating this dangerous fatty buildup. The European Journal of Nutrition published a study on rats, where they were fed an unhealthy high-fat diet for 8 weeks to promote the development of NAFLD. After which, they were given D-Limonene for another 4 weeks. The extract was shown to help reverse the damage to the liver caused by the excess fat.

So make sure to add a squeeze of lemon to every drink of water!
